Follow these four easy stages to help your dog feel happy and confident wearing their muzzle. From first sniff to comfortable wear, these steps outline how to use patience, play, and positive reinforcement to make muzzle training stress-free and enjoyable for both you and your dog.

If your dog is showing 'naughty' behaviour while muzzle training, such as jumping, grabbing, or acting out, remember this:

Dogs aren't being bad on purpose. They're communicating discomfort, stress, or confusion.

Instead of correcting them:

Ask: What might my dog be feeling right now?
Stay calm and supportive, avoid any punishment or scolding.
Take a step back and assess the situation.

🚨 Negative reactions can quickly turn into negative associations with the muzzle, which we want to avoid at all costs.

😔 "My dog is ignoring me or the muzzle"

Dogs might "ignore" you for different reasons during training, and it's not always disobedience. Here's what to check:

1. Is your marker loaded?

If your dog doesn't react to your clicker or marker word, they may not yet associate it with good things. Re-teach it like this:

✅Say your marker word or click

✅Immediately give a high-value treat or play tug

✅Repeat several times to rebuild the association

2. Is it a stress response?

Some dogs avoid the muzzle entirely when they're anxious. Signs of avoidance include:

Looking away from the muzzle
Sniffing, yawning, or scratching
Choosing to play elsewhere

Step 2: Go Back to Basics

Place the muzzle on a table or shelf without interacting
Let your dog see it during playtime or mealtime

1. Reinforce Calm Presence

2. Secure the Muzzle

Attach it to:

A chair leg
Wall hook
Baby gate
